Sunderland have entered contention to sign Leicester City star Louis Page, following the midfielder’s solid start to the season.
Leicester, of course, are playing League One football, after being relegated from the Championship last season, but it is still impressive Page has been able to force his way into the starting XI at just 18-years-old.
In fact, the teenager has started the last four matches, and perhaps his best performance yet came at the weekend, in which he picked up two assists to help his side pick up a 4-3 victory against Stockport County.

Leicester manager Russell Martin has been full of praise for the youngster too, saying earlier this season: “Louis is a really fantastic young player. Obviously, I know the director of football at Manchester United very well after spending some time with Southampton. So we haven’t actually spoken with Louis because he probably knows what I’d say to him and tell him to go away.
“But no, until something comes in that is really brilliant for the club, the player, and everyone is happy, then Louis stays, and he’s in the squad.”
The Black Cats are already well-stocked in the engine room, and Regis Le Bris has the likes of Enzo Le Fee, Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra and Granit Xhaka to choose from.
However, Xhaka is set to turn 34 later this month, and the Swiss midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, so it may be worthwhile to bring in a long-term replacement, and the Leicester starlet has proven he could be a solid option.
That said, it is unclear whether the Englishman would be able to make an instant impact at the Stadium of Light, considering he has only made 28 senior appearances for the Foxes, and is yet to test himself above Championship level.
Sunderland enter the race to sign Louis Page
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Sunderland have now entered the race to sign Page, but there is a growing list of potential suitors waiting in the wings to secure his signature.
Rivals Newcastle United are also credited with an interest, alongside Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United, and the Red Devils believe they are in pole position.
As such, it could be difficult for the Black Cats to win the race, but they are in contention, sending scouts to watch him in action at Edgeley Park against Stockport County on Saturday.
One thing that’s clear is that Leicester will find it very difficult to keep hold of Page, with a whole host of top Premier League sides keen, although they remain in a strong negotiating position, as he is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2029.
