NEW YORK — New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that right fielder Aaron Judge will not be ready for the American League wild-card series because of a right calf strain, which landed him on the 10-day Injured List this past Saturday.
Boone doesn’t know how Judge hurt the calf. Judge last played on Wednesday against the Twins in Minnesota. The skipper said Judge was going to the outfield to play defense that day and that’s when the calf tightened up on him. Boone called the strain moderate.
“We are planning on him not being a part of the (wild-card series),” Boone told reporters. “We are also at a time of the year where … we give ranges – two to four weeks, four to six weeks. The range is for a reason. We are at a point in the year where, obviously, we push it a little bit if (playing in the postseason) was in play. That is a week away. I’m not expecting it, but I’m not ruling it out either.”
Yankees’ Aaron Judge on IL for second time this season
According to Boone, Judge received a Platelet-poor plasma (PPP) injection on Monday, which means he will not do anything until the injury calms down.
This is Judge’s second time on the IL. He missed more than two months of this season because of a stress fracture in his right rib. For the season, Judge has played in 66 games and is slashing .241/.360/.511 with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs.
