France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given his take on Cristiano Ronaldo after his sudden exit from the Portugal national team.
Cristiano Ronaldo abruptly left the Portugal national team’s training camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash against Denmark. After a press conference by Selecao head coach Jorge Jesus, Ronaldo left the camp and flew to Madrid on his private jet.
Thanks for the submission!
His decision to leave the camp comes days after he was left on the bench in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway. Jesus revealed that he promised Ronaldo a 30-minute substitute appearance, but failed to keep his word.
In his appearance on Rothen s’enflamme, France legend Thierry Henry was asked to give his take on the impact the sudden exit would have on Cristiano Ronaldo’s career. He said (via RMC Sport):
“Judging an entire career on this? Never. When I think of Ronaldo, I won’t think of that, ever, ever!”
Henry then highlighted Ronaldo’s impact on the game of football and said he held him to the same standard as Lionel Messi. He said:
“What he means to football is extraordinary. We all praised his effort (at the World Cup). If it ends like this… I only talk about the player, what he did, what I like to bring up about Ronaldo is his way of being, how he experiences football, his obsession with football, records, being the best, and his body, which is better than when he started. It’s extraordinary.”
“I have enormous respect for Ronaldo as I have for Messi, for all the players who remained at the top.”
Cristiano Ronaldo claimed he will explain his decision to leave the national team soon in a social media post. Fans of the player will hope to see him receive a send-off worthy of his achievements.
