Pat McAfee has fired back at critics who took his playful jab at Jason Kelce’s use of “we” as a serious jab. Kelce, now an analyst on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, repeatedly referred to the Philadelphia Eagles as “we” while discussing his former team.
Kelce acknowledged the issue right there. “Sorry, sorry, sorry, Bears fans,” he said. McAfee turned the moment into a joke. “Lot of ‘we’ talk out of Jason for Philly,” McAfee said.
Thanks for the submission!
The exchange seemed lighthearted and all fun on the broadcast. However, McAfee said Wednesday that critics treated his comments as if he had genuinely been upset with Kelce.

On Wednesday’s installment of “The Pat McAfee Show,” the ESPN analyst addressed the reaction and argued that anyone familiar with Kelce and the situation should have understood that he was joking.

“Now, I usually mind my own, but if you thought I was being serious whenever I pointed out that Jason Kelce was saying ‘we’ about the Philadelphia Eagles, knowing who Jason Kelce is, with the Philadelphia Eagles at the ‘Monday Night Football’ halftime, you have no brain, and I think you should just realize that,” McAfee said.
“And I don’t love just the lying and the stuff that happens on my name these days, but just saying stuff to continue to add gas to a flame that isn’t real when you’re in this place and carry as much weight as you definitely do, I think it’s a little bit of a piling on, and I hope you all rot. All of you,” McAfee said. (07:29)
The former Indianapolis Colts punter also took aim at what he described as “piling on” when it comes to his name.
Jason Kelce referred Eagles as “we” on MNF alongside Pat McAfee
The original Kelce comments came during a difficult night for his former team. The Eagles lost 27-7 to the Bears at Soldier Field, dropping them to 2-1.
Kelce spent 13 seasons with the Eagles. He remains closely connected to the franchise following his retirement.
During halftime of their Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears, Kelce said,
“I’m looking at it, 10-7, I feel pretty good going in the half. We played really well. Offensively, we had opportunities, we shot ourselves in the foot, but we’ve moved the ball, we ran the ball well, Jalen Hurts is throwing the ball well.”
What began as a few “we” references from a former Eagles center during halftime has now become another unexpected talking point surrounding ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage.
