Man Utd hit with new JJ Gabriel fear as second youngster’s agent speaks out

Manchester United are under increasing pressure following their disappointing start to the season, with Michael Carrick facing serious questions about his future after Saturday’s draw with Tottenham.

The Red Devils have endured their worst start to a league campaign in 40 years, collecting just six points from their opening six Premier League matches, and Saturday’s draw against Spurs did little to ease concerns, with Carrick’s side unable to protect their advantage despite having an extra man.

Former United captain Gary Neville was particularly critical of the players’ attitude and work rate following another frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford.

“What Manchester United fans will not accept is what they see as a lack of effort, and the truth is that the players are not running enough, nor are they showing the required amount of ferocity, determination and fighting spirit,” he said.

“The booing tells you that they feel deeply frustrated by what they are watching.”

Neville also suggested that some members of the squad were struggling to cope with the demands of representing United.

“What we are seeing at the moment is a team that looks as if it is shrinking into itself, and the club has become bigger than the ability of some of the players to deal with the pressure at the present time,” he added.

“Carrick shaking his head would mean he is asking: are these players putting in the effort for me? What is happening with this group? Have they lost confidence in themselves? Has their focus slipped? Have they started to collapse? What is going on? Because these are not the players I was working with last season.”

The mood among supporters has also been worsened by uncertainty surrounding the future of highly rated academy prospect JJ Gabriel, who requested the club cancel his registration last month.

The 16-year-old has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants reportedly making contact with United over the youngster’s situation.

The Red Devils have a proud history of producing homegrown talent, with the Busby Babes and Class of ’92 helping establish the identity and fighting spirit that Neville believes is currently missing. Losing Gabriel would therefore represent a significant disappointment, and United could now face another battle to retain a promising academy player following comments from his representative.

Man Utd youngster Jaume Camacho’s agent speaks out

Manchester United midfielder Jaume Camacho has attracted the attention of leading sports agency Roc Nation Sports, with his representative revealing how the company initially approached the youngster’s family during a match.

The 17-year-old recently joined the agency, which also represents Real Madrid stars Vinicius Junior and Endrick, following his impressive development at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, in comments relayed by Sport Witness, agent Nathan Campbell explained how Camacho’s performances convinced the agency to make contact.

“We first made contact with the family during a game, at halftime,” Campbell revealed.

The representative explained that Camacho had dominated the opening period of a cup fixture, prompting Roc Nation’s head of UK recruitment to approach his father, Josep, and request his contact details.

Campbell was also full of praise for the youngster’s consistency, technical ability and leadership qualities.

“I’ve never seen him play a bad game. He never scores below a 6.”

Campbell’s comments about the youngster’s future could raise concerns at Old Trafford, with the agency determined to help him establish himself in senior football as quickly as possible.

“Our ambition is for him to make the leap to the first team as soon as possible and secure a place in one of the top five European leagues,” Campbell explained, outlining an ambition for Camacho to win major honours at both club and international level.

Jaume Camacho tipped for big future

Camacho has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign, registering three assists in four appearances for United’s Under-18s.

The Spanish-born attacking midfielder has also stepped up to Under-19 level in the UEFA Youth League, making his debut in the 5-0 victory over Sabah.

His performances have attracted considerable attention, with the youngster regarded as one of the most promising talents currently progressing through United’s academy.

Campbell believes Camacho’s intelligence and versatility are among his greatest strengths, while acknowledging that he still has significant physical development ahead of him.

“He still has a lot of room for improvement,” the agent explained, pointing to the physical development he expects as Camacho adapts to professional football.

For United, the priority will be ensuring Camacho sees a realistic pathway into the senior side, particularly given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Gabriel’s future. Carrick already faces the challenge of improving results on the pitch, but protecting the club’s next generation of talent could prove equally important in the long term, with United desperate to avoid losing another highly rated youngster before he has the opportunity to establish himself at Old Trafford.
