Kieran Trippier is dragged away after confronting Newcastle fan following defeat

Kieran Trippier had to be dragged away by his teammates after confronting a Newcastle fan.

The exchange happened following the Magpies’ 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium where two goals from Dominic Solanke earned a crucial win for the Cherries.

For Newcastle, it was a day to forget as defeat was compounded by an injury to Miguel Almiron on a day where they were forced to play without star men Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali who missed out through injury and suspension.

Having suffered back to back defeats this week following the loss to Dortmund in the Champions League, Newcastle are struggling for momentum and find themselves in seventh position in the Premier League.

With fans expecting a top four finish this term, tempers boiled over after the match with Trippier exchanging words with one supporter, a conversation that the defender explained post-match.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Trippier said: “The fans are emotional, of course they are.

“They have travelled a long way, they spend a lot of money to come and watch us. I was just having a chat with one of them, I said we are giving everything.

“There is no need to panic, we are still in a good position in the league, we are still in the Champions League, Carabao Cup quarter-finals, there is no need to panic.

“We got beat, we do apologise for that result, but the most important thing is that the lads are giving everything.

“We are giving more under the circumstances.”
