Ex-striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher believes Nemanja Vidic was only as good as Martin Skrtel, saying he ‘tore him apart twice’ while at Blackpool.
The former star was engaging with fans on social media with one saying that Vidic deserved more respect for winning five Premier League titles.
In that time, the fan pointed out that the ex-Manchester United defender had done so while facing legendary names such as Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko, Sergio Aguero, Luis Suarez, Robin van Persie, Fernando Torres and Hernan Crespo.
Taking to X, Taylor-Fletcher replied to the post, saying: “Yeah and I tore him apart twice for Blackpool in 2010/11 season.
“He was no where near levels of [Rio] Ferdinand, [John] Terry & VVD [Virgil van Dijk].
“He was the same level as [Martin] Skrtel. Solid good player. Not elite.”
Taylor-Fletcher made just 32 Premier League appearances in his career, with two of those coming against the Red Devils during the 2010/11 season.
In those fixtures, the journeyman striker did manage to find the net against Man United, albeit with his team losing 3-2 and 4-2 in their two fixtures.
Taylor-Fletcher’s claims echoed the sentiments of talkSPORT’s own Gabby Agbonlahor who claimed in January that he knew exactly how to get the better of the Serbian defender.
“I’ve said it before, I didn’t find Vidic hard to play against,” Agbonlahor told the talkSPORT Breakfast.
“Whenever he came tight, I’d spin in behind him. I could hold the ball up against him. Other players might say different, but that’s my opinion.”
During his time at Old Trafford, Vidic won Premier League titles, three League Cups, five Community Shields and a Champions League trophy.
