Sergio Perez's father analyzes Checo and Verstappen's relationship: They are two tigers in the same cage

With the arrival of Dutchman Max Verstappen and Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez at Red Bull, the Austrians are experiencing a second era of glory, just as they did when Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were the team’s drivers.

However, in the last two years, despite dominating the drivers’ championship, the clear differences between Verstappen and Checo have become apparent, a relationship analyzed by Antonio Perez Garibay, the Mexican driver’s father.

In an interview with TV Azteca, Perez Garibay pointed out that despite the differences, Checo has managed to cement himself as the second-best driver.

“They are two tigers in the same cage, as I have told you, and if you ask me who I would like Checo to be teammates with (to join) the best in the world, whoever he is, today he is the second best in the world, I have a son who is runner-up in the world, fortunately,” he said.

Checo’s human quality surpasses the figure of the driver

Perez Garibay pointed out that beyond the figure of the admired driver, he admires in his son the human quality he has shown off the track, thanks to the work of his foundation, which has helped people in poverty.

“Very proud. More than the Formula 1 driver and the figure, I like the human quality, the fact that he is always thinking about his people, his community, the less fortunate,” Perez said.
