Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has urged the Merseyside outfit to sign Bayern Munich man Michael Olise following the Frenchman’s display against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Earlier on Tuesday (April 28), Olise turned a lot of heads with his fine performance in his team’s 5-4 UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg loss at PSG. The 24-year-old bagged one goal, created one chance, completed eight of his 10 dribbles, and won 11 of his 21 overall duels.
Thanks for the submission!
After Olise’s left-footed strike in the 41st minute of the recent match, Pennant took to X and insisted Liverpool should replace Mohamed Salah with Olise this summer. He wrote:
“Liverpool go out and get Olise right now, at all costs. There is your replacement for Mo Salah. At all costs. Any amount plus (Cody) Gakpo.”
Olise, who is a left-footed inverted winger, has emerged as one of the top forwards in the world since leaving Crystal Palace for a reported £51 million in 2024. He has registered a staggering 20 goals and 29 assists in 47 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich so far this season.
Should the Reds launch a permanent move to sign the 15-cap France international this summer, Olise could opt to join them for two reasons. He could be keen to join a club in his country of birth and would also immediately pop up as a crucial starter in place of the departing Salah.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard doubts whether former club can buy Michael Olise
During a recent chat on TNT Sports, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was asked if he would take Michael Olise at his boyhood team now. The 45-year-old responded (h/t Metro):
“All day long. But the problem is, why would he leave Bayern? A big club, challenging for the big honours, and they are probably the strongest Bayern Munich team we have seen for a while. He is about to take the World Cup by storm come the summer. He looks like a really happy kid, settled, to me, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. But, yes, would I love him at Liverpool.”
Olise, whose current deal will expire in June 2029, is considered a crucial starter at Bayern Munich now. He has started 85 of his 102 total appearances for his club so far, producing 40 goals and 52 assists in the process.
The former Reading star has won three trophies at Bayern.
