Man Utd frontrunners to sign £43m Premier League star who Matheus Cunha loves

Manchester United have now emerged as frontrunners to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes, with Matheus Cunha a big fan.

What Matheus Cunha has said about Joao Gomes

Of course, Gomes and Cunha are teammates at international level, both representing Brazil, and the Man United forward has praised his compatriot in the past, while also describing why he could be an ideal addition to the squad.

The 26-year-old said: “I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that. He is unbelievable on the pitch.

“I feel very secure. I feel like I can lose the ball when I have my midfielders behind me. He played very well for the national team, too.”

It has been far from an ideal campaign for Wolves, who were the first team to be relegated from the Premier League, but the Brazil international has impressed on a personal level, with an average FotMob match rating of 6.96 ranking him first in the squad.

United, on the other hand, need to bring in a new midfielder, with Casemiro set to depart, and losing the 34-year-old could be a major blow, given that they have failed to win any of the four Premier League games he hasn’t started this season.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Man United are now frontrunners to sign Gomes as a Casemiro replacement, with Wolves expected to cash-in for around €50m (£43m), having been forced to drop their asking price after relegation was confirmed.

Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Crystal Palace are also in the race for the Wolves star, with the Old Gold expected to receive several offers when the summer transfer window opens.

The 25-year-old is now certain to leave Wolves, which could be a real blow for Rob Edwards, given that the central midfielder has missed just two Premier League games all season.

Michael Carrick drops update on Bruno Fernandes’ future

Casemiro’s departure could leave a gaping hole in Michael Carrick‘s midfield, and losing Bruno Fernandes could be a major issue too, with the attacking midfielder picking up eight goals and 20 assists in 33 Premier League matches this season.

However, Carrick has now dropped a promising update on the Portugal international’s future.

Asked if he expects Fernandes to stay at Old Trafford next season, he said: “I think Bruno, you can see he’s happy and he’s playing some fantastic football.

“Maybe he’s as good as he’s played over (here) and he’s had really good spells here.

“So, he looks happy, I think he’s got a big end to the season here. He’s got a big summer of course. But, yeah, as a football club we love having him here. He’s a big part of what we do.”
