Necrolei Cysts are one of the rare crafting materials you will need fairly early in Subnautica 2. This is required to craft Strong Acid, which you will need to buy some of the higher-tier items in the game. Since the game rarely tells you where to find crafting materials, exploration becomes a key factor for mapping out farming locations.
Here are some of the best spots to farm Necrolei Cysts in Subnautica 2 and what you can craft with them.
Subnautica 2: How to get Necrolei Cysts
Necrolei Cysts are purple glowing flowers that grow on top of the small bulb-like plants within pink tendrils at the bottom. These plants often grow in clusters of three to eight plants, making it easy for you to farm them in bulk. At night, the nearby biome glows, making them easier to spot.
Here’s how to locate the farming spot:
1) Location 1
The closest Necrolei Cyst farming spot is located roughly 300 meters directly northwest of the Lifepod at a depth of 40 meters. This is also the largest Necrolei Cyst farming spot in the early game section of Subnautica 2.
Start from the Lifepod and head straight to the northwest section. Once you reach 300 meters of distance from the Lifepod, dive down to 40 meters to find large purple plants (which glow bluish-purple at night) scattered everywhere.
The Necrolei Cysts grows closer to the ground, so look around the base of the larger plants to find them.
2) Location 2
Directly to the north of the Lifepod at a distance of 280 meters, you will find a wreckage. This location is also an ideal spot for farming Necrolei Cysts.
3) Location 3
You can also find some Necrolei Cysts approximately 90 meters north of the Angel Comb.
Once you have unlocked the Scanner Station, you can easily pinpoint the location of resources like Necrolei Cysts anywhere on the map. To build a scanner station, you will need the following items:
- 1x System Chip (1x Wiring Kit and 2x Quartz)
- 3x Titanium
- 1x Wiring Kit (1x Silver and 1x Copper Wire)

Recommended tools and equipment
The area itself is not hazardous, but you might run into some Nibbler Mangoes, who will attack you if you go near them. You can distract them using Flares, so carry a couple of flares if you can.
Here are some of the items you should get before going for the Necrolei Cyst farming run:
1) Survival Multitool
The Survival Multitool is required to harvest the Necrolei Cyst from the bulbous plant.
2) Standard Air Tank
- 2x Titanium
- 1x Rubber
- 2x Silver
While the depth is only 40 meters, the farming experience is much smoother with a higher oxygen reserve.
3) Basic Fins
This gives a momentary speed boost, which makes it exceptional for evading incoming attacks.
4) Wavemaker
- 1x Silver
- 1x Wiring Kit
- 1x Grease
- 1x Basic Battery
While it is not a must-have item, having one in your arsenal can dramatically increase your farming loop.
5) Air Bladder
This item helps you ascend rapidly while diving underwater.

The Necrolei Cysts are the key ingredient for crafting Strong Acid, which is required to craft Advanced Batteries and Power Cells (both Regular and Entrangled), making it highly valuable for overall progression. You can also craft Strong Acid using 1x Sulpfur and 1x Gold which can be useful once you start farming these materials.
