Everton aren’t going to be playing out in Europe next season, but they’ve come a long way under David Moyes‘ wing – again.

The first time the Scottish manager was at the helm, Everton were treated to a sustained rush into the limelight, breaking away from routine bottom-half-of-the-table finishes under Walter Smith and challenging for Europe across the span of a decade.

Now, Moyes has returned, lifting Everton away from the relegation fodder and settling them in mid-table, one match still to play of this Premier League season.

Whether Everton beat relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season remains to be seen, but the improvements are clear to see, even if last weekend’s loss against Sunderland at the Hill Dickinson acted as a sobering reality check.

First-class attacking outlets can come in many different shapes and sizes, with Marouane Fellaini something of a Moyes favourite during his managerial career.

What’s the relevance of this? Well, the big Belgium thrived under Moyes’ wing at Goodison Park before joining him at Old Trafford in 2013, signing for Manchester United in a £27m deal.

Moyes likes to work with those he knows, and now, he seems ready to repeat the trick.

Signing a top wide forward is a priority for the Merseysiders this summer, and Football Insider report that a move is being planned to sign West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen this summer, should the Hammers get relegated from the division on Sunday.

Bowen is one of the most accomplished forwards in the Premier League, and while the Irons are hoping to bank £60m for his signature this summer, the Friedkin Group will surely engineer a lower fee, should they be relegated.

Why Bowen could be Everton’s next Fellaini

Moyes knows Bowen and how he operates like the back of his hand – and vice versa.

You would think that Bowen would be interested in signing for the Toffees this summer, rejoining with his old mentor and helping this outfit make headway up the table.

He scored the winning goal in the Conference League final, has captained West Ham through the peaks and valleys over the past few years. His influence and style down the right has even seen pundit Tony Cascarino describe him as being in the “Salah club“.

While the England star is headed for relegation – unless Everton can throw a spanner in the works on Sunday – he has maintained an impressive level this season, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists while creating 14 big chances. It should go without saying that the Irons would be in far more dire straits without their skipper leading the way.

He is not the same as the towering Fellaini, but both are essential to the way that Moyes’ systems operate. By signing him, he would provide this club with a missing link, taking their attacking efforts to the next level.

It would see Iliman Ndiaye get to play on the left with more consistency, and it would ease the talented but raw Thierno Barry’s goalscoring burden.

Fellaini, 38 and retired, once said that he shed tears when Moyes was sacked by Man United, having developed such a deep connection with the boss on tactical and human levels.

It’s the same for Bowen, who hit such heights under his wing. Surely he would be interested in revisiting that playing field?

Bowen has established himself as a modern-day legend at West Ham, but he’s still in the prime of his career and should not go down with his ship.

The prolific has done all he can, and Moyes could now give him a lifeline, so making him his next version of Fellaini.
