NASCAR rivalry ends in heartbreak as Brad Keselowski mourns Kyle Busch’s sudden death: “I feel like the coyote with no more roadrunner to chase”

The NASCAR community continues to mourn the tragic passing of legend Kyle Busch, and now one of his fiercest rivals has paid an emotional tribute that captured just how much the two-time Cup champion meant to the sport. Longtime rival Brad Keselowksi reflected on their decades-long rivalry with a heartfelt message following Busch’s sudden death.

Kyle Busch, who was competing in his 22nd full-time Cup Series season, passed away suddenly at the age of 41 after being hospitalized with severe illness.

Busch and Keselowski built one of the sport’s fiercest rivalries from intense on-track clashes to heated exchanges in the media. Yet beneath the fierce competition was a deep respect that only elite competitors could understand.

Following the devastating news of Busch’s death, Keselowski took to X to share his grief. In a heart-touching statement, the RFK driver/co-owner admitted that Busch constantly pushed him to become a better driver and competitor throughout their careers. He then delivered an emotional line, comparing their rivalry to the legendary cartoon chase between the Coyote and the Roadrunner.

“I made him earn every victory and stole a few from him along the way. We took our shots at each other, in the media and on the track. But I’d like to think that somewhere deep down there was an appreciation that we pushed each other to perform at the highest level, even if neither of us would’ve admitted it. Tonight, I feel a little like the coyote with no more roadrunner to chase. His loss is all of our loss, but none more so than his family’s. Thinking of Samantha, and Brexton and Lennix who lost their father today.” Keselowski wrote.

Paying tribute to Busch’s death, RFK Racing, a team co-owned by Brad Keselowski, wrote:

“RFK racing is incredibly saddened by the tragic passing of NASCAR legend and future hall of famer Kyle Busch. Kyle was universally admired for his incredible success, competitive fire, passion for racing, and love for his family.”

“Although Kyle will be missed immensely, his legacy and spirit will be felt in the garage indefinitely. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Busch family, Richard Childress racing, and all of our friends and colleagues that are mourning this unspeakable loss.”
