After Shankland: Rangers make approach to sign another attacker

After a disappointing campaign, Rangers have instantly set their sights on some early reinforcements for Danny Rohl, including the addition of Djurgarden winger Oskar Fallenius.

The Gers are wasting no time before getting their business done this summer. They’re desperate to avoid a repeat of this season, which saw them fall to third and lose out on another Scottish Premiership to rivals Celtic.

The first target on their list is, of course, Lawrence Shankland. The Hearts captain has sealed a controversial move to Ibrox just weeks after his side finished above Rangers in the league.

The Scottish giants are now aiming for a flurry of deals to go alongside the forward. According to TeamTalk, Rangers have launched an approach to sign Fallenius from Djurgarden this summer.

The Swedish winger is reportedly keen on a new challenge outside of his home country and wants to work under Rohl – handing the Gers a major boost.

The Gers boss is very keen.

It’s no real surprise that Rangers are targeting a winger, either. They’re set to send Andreas Skov Olsen back to Wolfsburg instead of triggering their buy option.

This opens up a space for a winger to arrive in the form of Fallenius, who could join Shankland to help complete an attacking rebuild for Rohl ahead of next season.

    Shankland completes Rangers move

Scotland forward Shankland has undergone a medical and formalised his surprise transfer from Hearts to Premiership rivals Rangers.

The 30-year-old has already agreed a deal with the Ibrox club after they triggered a break clause allowing him to leave Tynecastle.

The transfer, which has left Hearts supporters reeling, has officially been announced. Shankland told the official Rangers website: “I am delighted to be here and to have this opportunity. Rangers is my boyhood club, and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done.

“A lot of hard graft has gone in to get to this point, and I’m just really happy. The club are in a position where they want to get back to winning silverware more regularly, and I want to be a big part of that, so that’s what I have come here to do.”

Shankland appeared to be tied to Hearts until 2028, but it emerged over the weekend that the three-year contract he signed last summer had a get-out clause in the player’s favour.

While the Edinburgh club have been criticised by some supporters for sanctioning such a deal, they would not have had the services of the prolific forward for the past year if they had declined his request.
