Liverpool are pushing ahead with plans to sign Yan Diomande this summer and are set to go head-to-head with Paris Saint-Germain following Fabrizio Romano’s latest update.
Liverpool step up Diomande pursuit
There won’t be many teams more glad to see the back of the Premier League campaign than Liverpool. Arne Slot has gone from the second coming to thanks for coming as far as Liverpool fans are concerned. For the time being, however, the Dutchman is set to remain in charge next season.
Liverpool make approach to sign £22m star who was named on Ballon d’Or shortlist
Contact has been made regarding a deal for a “breathless” star.
The biggest show of faith that Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes can now pull off is the arrival of more big-money stars this summer, which makes their pursuit of Diomande no major surprise.
Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on that pursuit, reporting that Liverpool are “in talks” with Diomande and his camp over a big-money move ahead of next season.
The RB Leipzig winger stole the show in the Bundesliga this season and his price-tag has skyrocketed as a result. So much so that the Bundesliga club are now reportedly demanding around £86m to sell their star man this summer.
Whether Liverpool decide to pay that is the big question. There’s also a chance that they’ll be able to skip club-to-club negotiations altogether, of course, after Leipzig offered Diomande a new deal which includes a release clause.
Triggering that release clause would very much leave the ball in the winger’s court, who would be left to decide between Paris Saint-Germain and a move to Anfield.
Liverpool must go all out for Diomande
£86m is a hefty fee, but just ask FSG and they’ll say that it wasn’t so long ago they were splashing the cash to a higher extent. Now, the Liverpool owners need to complete their attacking rebuild with the addition of a quick, tricky winger in Diomande.
The Leipzig star is exactly what Slot needs. He’s direct, quick and has added goals to his game over the last 12 months. He may not be Premier League proven, but neither was Mohamed Salah when he arrived and he’s since become an Anfield legend. Whether Diomande follows suit to replace the Egyptian is the big question that everyone is asking.
“He’s a left winger with outstanding speed, can dribble, is very athletic and can finish. He also never gives up the ball and works for the team. Despite all the excitement, we should give Yan enough time to settle into life in Leipzig and the Bundesliga.” (Leipzig chief Marcel Schafer)
After 13 goals and 10 assists for Leipzig this season, the 19-year-old star is more than ready to take the Premier League by storm this summer.
