“Has done nothing other than get suspended”: Fans left bamboozled as Daniel Dye announces NASCAR Truck series return

Daniel Dye has got himself another ride in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series after his resignation from Kaulig Racing last month but the announcement has been met with some criticism from fans.

On Tuesday, May 26, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing revealed that Dye will return for four races in 2026. He will race the No. 20 Chevrolet at Nashville this weekend and return for Michigan, Kansas, and the October race at Charlotte.

The comeback comes after NASCAR suspended Dye in March for mocking IndyCar driver David Malukas during a Whatnot livestream. NASCAR and Kaulig Racing both suspended him after the clip spread online. Dye was reinstated and cleared him to race again soon after but he left Kaulig Racing.

In 2022, ARCA also suspended Dye after a felony battery arrest tied to a school incident in which he was accused of punching a classmate in the groin.

“Genuinely HOW? Bro has done nothing other than get suspended for assaulting someone and being a dick. He has a ride over Nick Sanchez btw,” a fan wrote.

24-year-old Nick Sanchez had a full-time O’Reilly Series ride with AM Racing, which closed mid season ahead of the race at Rockingham Speedway. The 2022 ARCA Menards Series champion ended the past two seasons in 6th and 5th place overall for Rev Racing.

Dye’s Truck program has carried strong off-track branding as well. He will again race with the Race to Stop Suicide banner, a project tied to his own awareness work and backed by Foundation Risk Partners.

    “Ew,” a user reacted.

“A bully with Race to Stop Suicide on their truck is wild,” another wrote.

“Clown driver for a joke of a team… what a perfect match. Not shocked at all. Pathetic,” yet another shared.

Others backed the 22-year-old driver and said he still has talent worth a second chance.

“Good he should’ve never lost his ride to begin with,” a fan wrote.

“Kid is talented and deserves this opportunity,” another wrote.

Daniel Dye also lined up a four-race NASCAR Cup Series deal with Live Fast Motorsports, and that team operates in a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing.

Daniel Dye moved to the NASCAR Truck Series in 2023 after winning an ARCA race over three years. Across 47 career Truck Series starts, he has recorded two top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes. His best Truck season came in 2024 with GMS Racing, where he posted a 16.2 average finish and nine top-10 results.

This season, Dye posted an average finish of 15.7 across his starts before his suspension. His best run during that stretch came with a 13th-place finish at Atlanta. He sat 13th in the Truck standings before NASCAR suspended him in March.

Meanwhile, the Truck race at Nashville Superspeedway’s 1.333-mile oval this Friday, May 29, is set for at 8 pm ET.
