According to an internal source contacted by AFP, the Catalan giants, once again allowed to sign players without financial restrictions, had their offer of 70 million euros (AU$114 million) plus 10 million euros in bonuses accepted by the Premier League club.
The official announcement of Gordon’s move is expected by the end of the week, the club said.
According to the Catalan press, Gordon’s arrival, as a left winger who can also play centrally, does not rule out other potential attacking signings.
Born in Liverpool and developed at Everton, Gordon joined Newcastle in 2023 for around 50 million euros (AU$81 million).
He faced Barca twice in this season’s Champions League campaign, during which he scored 10 goals across 12 matches.
Chelsea’s $225m demand for World Cup winner
Argentine international Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea, and the club’s open to a sale – but they won’t let him go cheaply.
The 25-year-old midfielder, under contract until 2032, joined Chelsea in January 2023 for a then British transfer record fee of £106 million (AU$199 million).
However, after Chelsea failed to qualify for Europe, Fernandez’s agent is currently exploring other destinations, including preferred option Real Madrid. Manchester City also looms as an prospect.
Should Fernandez depart, Chelsea will demand £120 million (AU$225 million) for his exit, a club-record sale excluding add-ons. However, the World Cup winner currently remains part of the club’s planning for next season, according to reports.
Three giants prepare for $150m bidding war
At least three rivals clubs are circling England international Morgan Rogers, with Aston Villa reportedly willing to listen to offers in the vicinity of £80 million (AU$150 million).
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are each interested in signing the forward, who last year penned a contract with Aston Villa until 2031. Paris Saint-Germain is also in the conversation.
Rogers, having helped Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League with a Europa League triumph, has scored 31 goals and 29 assists across 125 appearances since joining the club from Middlesbrough in January 2024. This season, he has contributed 14 goals and 12 assists.
Carrick on verge of first signing
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing their first signing under Michael Carrick, with the club reportedly reaching a deal with Atalanta for Ederson.
United, hoping to bolster the squad and replace the outgoing Casemiro ahead of their Champions League return, are in talks to sign the Brazilian midfielder for around £38 million (AU$71 million), with the move set to be confirmed later this week.
Ederson initially looked as though he would join Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish club shifted its attention towards Wolves’ Joao Gomes, opening the door for United.
