The Gujarat Titans have been in some remarkable form this season with the bat, and all credit to those two openers at the top of their batting order. They have cut short a wonderful finish to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s dream season in IPL 2026, as the youngster leaves in tears after missing out on the first-ever IPL final spot.
Every time the Titans have managed to win matches, these two have dominated, as was witnessed in the clash against the Rajasthan Royals. Titans might not have had a star-studded playing XI, especially on their batting deck; however, the limited number of players they have kept their faith in in recent times. Following their extraordinary resilience, the Titans under captain Shubman Gill have made it to their third IPL final.
Rajasthan Royals made it to the IPL 2026 playoffs with some commanding performances from their youngest player, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who finished with a record number of runs in the season. Royals finished fourth on the points table and defeated the Sunrisers in a high-voltage clash in the Eliminator.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi teary-eyed after missing out on IPL final spot
The first-ever complete season for the Rajasthan Royals in his short career, and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, has proved to the world why he is one of the greatest prodigies ever witnessed in the game of cricket.
Starting with brute force and variable consistency to two 90+ scores in IPL knockouts, the 15-year-old has proved to the world that age is just a number. Sooryavanshi finished the season with 776 runs across 16 innings with a strike rate of 237.31.
The Rajasthan Royals couldn’t make it to the finals of IPL 2026 despite his brilliant knock of 96 against the Titans, and the boy was seen deeply hurt and with tears in his eyes as he walked out of the field, where he could have stood tall as a hero had his team made it to the finals.
No Hundred for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi but RR batter creates history with massive IPL record
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi missing out on hundreds has been a haunting sight for the RR fans this season. However, the fearless band of cricketers like Sooryavanshi are also selfless, as they never look to avoid playing their shots just in order to complete their milestones.
Entering Qualifier 2, the stage was set at the New PCA Stadium, where he scored those 97 runs in the previous game. However, this knock comprised more of a sensible knock where Sooryavanshi played many more balls and took his time to reach 96 before being dismissed in a similar fashion.
Despite missing out on a century, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has amassed 776 runs in 16 matches in the season, which is the highest number of runs ever scored for any uncapped batter.
Shubman Gill leads GT to IPL finals with stunning hundred
Though Rajasthan Royals played a fine hand in the game, they only made it thrilling for the Gujarat Titans and their skipper Shubman Gill. Gill not only scored a century to register a stunning win for the Titans but also contributed significantly to the team’s scoring rate.
However, Gill’s century was more of a well-composed knock than Sooryavanshi’s. The technically sound batter contributed to his century with 15 fours and took control of the game while keeping the scoreboard ticking.
They have now qualified for their third final in the history of the IPL and will be aiming for their second title, while Gill aims for his first-ever title as a captain of the Gujarat Titans.
