It was learned earlier on Monday that the New York Giants were signing veteran wide receiver Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal. Thus, some assumed that the Giants had decided to pass on bringing Odell Beckham Jr. back to what was his first NFL home from the 2014 draft through the 2018 season.
The Giants later proved such individuals wrong.
Why Giants made this Odell Beckham Jr. decision
Later on Monday, the Giants confirmed that they have signed Beckham to what presumably is a team-friendly deal. As ESPN’s Jordan Raanan noted, Big Blue made these moves after receiver and kick returner Gunner Olszewski tore his Achilles during an OTA practice.
Beckham earned his three career Pro Bowl nods (2014-16) while featuring for the Giants, and the one-time Super Bowl champion recently made it known that he feels he “left some things unfinished” with the organization. Additionally, John Harbaugh reportedly
“loves” Beckham. The current Giants head coach worked with the 33-year-old when the two were employed by the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 season.
However, one would think that Beckham may not be guaranteed a spot on the Giants’ active roster come September. He hasn’t played in a regular-season game since he recorded nine catches for 55 yards in nine appearances with the Miami Dolphins during the 2024 campaign.
That said, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported on Monday that Beckham’s workout with the Giants earlier in the day went “reallllly well.” It’s fair to say Anderson’s report was spot on.
Should Odell Beckham Jr. news concern fans regarding Malik Nabers?
The Giants shared their Beckham news hours after Adam Schefter suggested that the status of New York WR1 Malik Nabers for the Giants’ Week 1 home “Sunday Night Football” game versus the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13 “is very much up in the air.” Nabers suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus last September, and he needed a second surgery for a “clean up” related to that setback earlier this offseason.
One now can’t help but wonder if Harbaugh and Co. fear that Nabers won’t be available for at least the season-opening matchup against the Cowboys.
