CM Punk has been absent from WWE television for a while, and a new report has laid out the massive plans in store for The Second City Saint when the former World Heavyweight Champion returns.
Earlier this year, CM Punk appeared on Monday Night RAW and shared the ring with Cody Rhodes following his successful title defense against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42. While The Second City Saint lost his title to Roman Reigns in Las Vegas, Punk already had his eyes on the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, he went on hiatus following his interaction with The American Nightmare.
Thanks for the submission!
According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), the current plan for CM Punk is to move to Friday Night SmackDown. The reason for the move is to balance the roster, as the red brand currently has Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, The Usos, The Vision, and Oba Femi. Meanwhile, the blue brand needs to add some star power.
Moreover, the report stated that the company is headed toward a feud between Punk and Rhodes for the title, which was teased on the RAW after WrestleMania 42. It’ll be interesting to see how the creative manages to start a feud between two babyface stars in the promotion.
When will CM Punk return to WWE TV?
CM Punk started the year as the World Heavyweight Champion. The Second City Saint entered WrestleMania as the champion and headlined the event against Roman Reigns for the title. However, the 47-year-old veteran succumbed to The Original Tribal Chief and lost the prestigious title in the main event in Nevada.
After the event, he met Cody Rhodes in the middle of the ring, and the two cut promos on each other on WWE RAW after WrestleMania 42. It’s been over a month, and Punk hasn’t been seen on television, but there’s an update on when he might return to the weekly product.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, the multi-time WWE World Champion is expected to appear on Monday Night RAW in Chicago next month. CM Punk will reportedly be on the July 6 edition of the red brand, and this would mark his official return to the weekly product.
