Alex Pereira is puzzled by Jon Jones’ decision to flaunt a goat-themed chain on social media following his loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250. Unsurprisingly, the MMA community has plenty of theories about what Jones may have meant.
At the historic White House event, after a competitive first round, ‘Bon Gamin’ knocked out the legendary Brazilian in the second, laying claim to the interim heavyweight title.
Reacting to the result on social media, Jones flaunted a GOAT-themed chain while glancing nonchalantly into the camera.
‘Poatan’, for one, is puzzled about why the consensus MMA GOAT would react to his loss in such a way when he has done nothing to disrespect him. In a recent YouTube video, Pereira questioned:

“To be honest, I was very surprised. If I were one of the guys that provoked him, then I lose, and then he goes and says something, then I’d understand. But I’ve never spoken bad about Jon Jones. I’ve always respected [him]… So I don’t understand, to be honest. For real, I don’t understand why he did that. In a difficult moment like this for the athlete. Nobody wants to lose. In a moment so difficult, he decides to provoke someone who’s never provoked him.”

@10eightgg opined:
“He didn’t disrespect Alex, though. His tweet was more of a, ‘Hey, look, I’m still the GOAT.’ Unless Pereira thinks he’s the GOAT, he shouldn’t be offended. But he seems not to be dealing with the loss well.”
@_funnydavid pointed out:
“Pretty sure Jones’ whole intent was to get at the fact he beat Gane, who is on top of the world right now.”

Alex Pereira believes “lucky jab” helped Gane win at UFC Freedom 250
Alex Pereira believes it was a lucky jab that helped Ciryl Gane win at UFC Freedom 250.
At the White House event, Gane walked Pereira onto a stiff jab in the second round, sending ‘Poatan’ crashing down to the canvas. ‘Bon Gamin’ then unleashed vicious ground-and-pound and a relentless barrage of strikes once the Brazilian fought his way back to his feet, ultimately prompting referee Herb Dean to stop the contest.
Pereira believes the jab that led to the knockdown was little more than a lucky shot. In the aforementioned YouTube video, he said:
“Unfortunately, the punch landed; the jab, as I said, it’s heavyweight; the punches are stronger. But I would say it was a lucky jab, a lucky shot, because if you throw it, closing your eyes and lowering your head, cool, the shot landed. That’s where everything started going well for him, but it was a lucky jab.” [2:51 mark of the video]
