Pato O’Ward fends off Christian Lundgaard, wins IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio

With a brilliant drive and an excellent final pit stop from his No. 5 crew, Arrow McLaren driver Pato O’Ward won Sunday’s NTT IndyCar Series race at Mid-Ohio, holding off his McLaren teammate Christian Lundgaard to score his first victory of the 2026 IndyCar season.

O’Ward entered Sunday’s race without a podium finish through the first 10 races of the campaign, but pounced on Lundgaard after the latter went wide during the second half of the race and pulled away to earn the checkered flag. It’s the 10th win of O’Ward IndyCar career.

“It’s been a year,” O’Ward told Fox Sports. “It’s been a tough one for sure. Today’s just a perfect example of execution. I waited for the perfect time to pounce. From there we just controlled it. The guys were amazing in the pits. This car’s been a joy to drive all weekend.”

The 1-2 finish for McLaren is the first in the organization’s history. Sunday’s race at the Lexington, Ohio, road course went caution-free.
