On Monday, July 27, NJ/NY Gotham FC announced the club’s mutual departure with Esther González, the club’s all-time leading scorer. Per Gotham’s official announcement, González departs Gotham FC to return home to her native Spain to attend to personal matters.
“We wish Esther and her family all the best as they return home to Spain,” said Yael Averbuch West, president of soccer operations for Gotham FC, in the club’s release.
“Gotham FC will always hold a very special place in my heart,” González added in the release.
González joined Gotham FC two summers ago. She scored two goals in her five regular season appearances, and notched the game-winning goal in the 2023 NWSL Championship. She scored 30 goals in her 64 total appearances with Gotham.
