Pupperai is one of the new Pals added in the Palworld 1.0 update. It’s not particularly handy as a worker, but early game damage, it’s one of the best party members you can get. The latest update made significant changes to build crafting, allowing Pals to provide various bonuses simply by being on a team.
By itself, Pupperai increases your Melee damage by 35%, and with the right team composition, you can make the early-game experience much smoother. In this guide, we’ll go over the early melee damage build in Palworld using Pupperai.
Where to find Pupperai in Palworld

While the Pupperai is one of the early-game Pals, you still need to do some exploring to find one. They spawn around the beach area of Windswept Hills near the Grassy Behemoth Hills Fast Travel point (172,-475). The reason it’s a good pick for a build is that it boosts your melee damage by 10%, scaling up to 35% with improved Partner Skill.
Note that you don’t need to have Pupperai on the field to get the damage bonus, as the Partner Skill functions as a passive ability. This is important because the build uses a different Pal on the field.
Best Pupperai build setup in Palworld

Now that you know where to find the Pupperai, it’s time to get other Pals that will further boost the damage and provide survivability during melee fights. Here’s the team setup that we’ll use in our melee build:
- Pupperai (Passive)
- Gobfin (Passive)
- Warsect (Passive)
- Loupmoon (Passive)
- Any damage conversion Pal (like Wixen)
Like the Pupperai, the Gobfin also improves your melee damage by 10%, scaling up to 20% at max Partner Skill. To capture one, head to the Goblin’s Turn Fast Travel in Verdant Brooks (149,-208). You’ll find plenty of them roaming near the estuary.
The next member of the team is Warsect, also found in Verdant Brooks around the Sealed Realm of the Mystic Dungeon (120,-61). It is the next most important Pal in the build as it generates a barrier around you after landing five melee hits in (5~9) seconds. This is how you’re going to survive a fistfight in Palworld.

Loupmoon is the next on our list and provides a buff to our melee weapon attack speed by (15~30)%. It helps activate the barrier more quickly and increases your overall damage, since more hits mean higher DPS. The Loupmoon is common Pal around the Moonless Shore, Verdant Brooks, and Bamboo Groves at night.
The last team member you want is someone who can buff your attacks as well as deal damage. For this build, we’re using Wixen, who converts all your damage to Fire and increases attack by (30~50)%. However, feel free to use any other Pal you want. To capture a Wixen, head to the giant craft on the right side of Verdant Brooks near the Altar of the Windcaller Fast Travel point around (347,-71).
Best weapon for Pupperai build in Palworld

With the team comp ready, all you need is a weapon. Luckily, Palworld features plenty of melee weapons in the Technology Tree that you can use across both early and endgame. Speaking of which, do check out our list of the best endgame weapons. For now, we recommend you use the best one you have available.
Presuming you’re around Level 20, use the Primitive Sword, then upgrade to the regular one as you reach around Level 30. There is also the Katana at Level 47 and the Beam Sword at Level 57. If you want to keep your distance even when using melee, get the schematics for the Terra Blade from the secret Terraria Dungeon near the Isle of Eternal Summer (-420,-787).
Another thing you can do is capture a Skutlass and use it as your melee weapon when needed. On activation, the Partner Skill transforms the Skutlass into a katana that deals 2600 base damage to enemies.
You will, however, need to swap out one of the Pals from the existing build. Additionally, the Skutlass has a cooldown, during which you’ll need to switch to a real weapon. We recommend removing Loupmoon, as the attack speed buff will not affect another Pal. There’s plenty of Skutlass near the shore of the Anubis Dunes, outside Bamboo Grooves (-130,-79).
