For Pokemon fans, especially those of the older games, creators bryanthaboi and DramaticShape have something that will tickle your nostalgia. They have developed a way to add a 3D mod to these games that will run on macOS. This is limited to just the Generation I games, i.e., Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow but with the 3D graphics, the game feels like they have new life breathed into them.
So in this article, we will go over the steps involved playing a 3D version of these games on macOS.
How to install a 3D Pokemon mod on macOS?
You will need a copy of the original games so that you can digitize it into a rom. Additionally, you will also need a specific emulator to run these games on your Mac. Luckily this also comes to us courtesy of bryanthaboi who helped get this mod up and running. Check out the link to those emulators here.
Meanwhile for the actual 3D mod, we have DramaticShape to thanks for the assets. Check out the link to those here.
How to install the emulator
Follow these steps to get the emulator working:
- Download the “gen1macrecomp” zip file from the list of links from bryanthaboi.
- Open the zip file and start the application.
- The application has specific tabs for Red, Blue, and Yellow, so make sure your ROM matches the tab you pick.
- Click “Import Rom” on the game whose rom you have and want to play with a 3D mod.
