    Pasindu Sooriyabandara gifts wicket on 92 after surviving lbw previous ball on Day 4 of SL vs IND 2026 2nd Test [Watch]

    Pasindu Sooriyabandara threw his wicket away on day four of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India at Colombo. Having done all the hard work, he fell short of a well-deserved hundred.

    On the third ball of the 61st over by Manav Suthar, Pasindu Sooriyabandara gifted his wicket by playing a loose shot. He premeditated a big hit and charged down the track. However, Suthar saw him coming forward and smartly slowed down the pace of the ball, pushing it well outside off, away from the batter’s reach.

    As Sooriyabandara was already ahead, he failed to get anywhere close to the ball and completely missed it. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant made no mistake in collecting the ball and breaking the stumps. Therefore, a desperate lunge from Sooriyabandara cost him his wicket as he was stumped on 92 off 173 balls.

    Interestingly, Pasindu Sooriyabandara had just survived an lbw call on the previous delivery. He was given out, but reviewed the decision. There was a big spike when the ball was next to the bat. Therefore, an inside edge had saved the batter. However, he could not make use of the lifeline, as a massive error saw him walking back the very next ball. Having batted well, he would be disappointed not to have scored a hundred and for giving away his wicket easily.

    Pasindu Sooriyabandara missed out on a century twice in this Test

    Pasindu Sooriyabandara has been among the top performers for Sri Lanka in this Test. He made 172 runs across both innings, scoring back-to-back half-centuries. Unfortunately for his team and himself, he failed to go past three figures on both occasions.

    In the first innings of the second Test, he made 80 runs off 133 balls with nine boundaries. He was unlucky to have found a thick inside edge as the ball ricocheted onto his back thigh and rolled onto the stumps off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling.

    While he was slightly unfortunate in the first innings, Sooriyabandara was himself responsible for his dismissal here in the second innings. His 92-run knock included ten boundaries and a six.
