Liverpool are plotting a swoop to sign highly rated Italian midfielder Cher Ndour from Fiorentina, according to CaughtOffside.
The midfielder has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects in recent seasons. He began his footballing journey at Brescia’s renowned academy that has also produced the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Sandro Tonali and Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca.
Ndour then quickly moved to Atalanta, where he impressed with the youth ranks before joining Benfica’s academy in the summer of 2020.
While with the 38-time Portuguese champions, he made 57 appearances with the academy, and his displays piqued the interest of Paris Saint-Germain, who signed him on a free transfer in 2023.
Despite arriving at the Parc des Princes with a lot of promise, the 22-year-old struggled to break into the first team, making just four first-team appearances. He went on loan at Braga and Besiktas before signing for Fiorentina on a permanent transfer in the 2025 winter transfer window.
Since arriving at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, he has established himself as one of Italy’s best midfielders, featuring in 68 games across all competitions, including all four Serie A games this season, with performances that have caught the eye.
Now, according to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are looking for a long-term dynamic profile to add depth to their midfield ranks.
Exciting midfielder
As a result, the report adds that the Reds are among the clubs keeping tabs on Ndour for that role due to his athleticism and ability to operate in high-intensity systems.
While the two-cap Italian international has an estimated £17m valuation, Fiorentina are demanding a fee between £25 and £29m to sanction the midfielder’s departure, according to the report.
However, Liverpool face stern competition, with the report adding that Aston Villa and Juventus are also in the race to sign Ndour, CaughtOffside adds.
Standing at a towering 6ft 3in, Ndour brings a tall, athletic presence to central midfield, with the technical quality to feature as a No. 8, deeper playmaker or more advanced option.
His game is built on strong ball carrying, a broad passing range and useful defensive work, though he still needs more consistency and improved production in the final third.
For a player of his qualities, £29m would be a bargain, so Liverpool will need to act swiftly to avoid being trumped by other interested clubs like Villa in the race for the 22-year-old.
