Former England international winger Andros Townsend escaped without a serious injury after suffering a bizarre accident during warm-up. The 35-year-old was run over by a pitch roller while warming up ahead of PT Prachuap’s away fixture against Pattani on Saturday, September 19.
Townsend only joined Thai club PT Prachuap from Kanchanaburi Power last month. He was preparing for their top-flight game with Pattani when the shocking incident took place.

The 13-time-capped former England international was training with his teammates ahead of the game. He was quite naturally oblivious to the pitch roller slowly approaching him at Pattani Province Stadium.
Townsend’s left leg was caught awkwardly between the giant roller and the turf, sparking sheer horror on the faces of his teammates. The driver immediately leapt from his seat as Townsend went under the roller.
However, the former Tottenham Hotspur star was able to get back to his feet and hobble away. Quite remarkably, he still managed to feature in the game, coming on from the bench as his side secured a 3-0 victory.

Andros Townsend played 291 games in the Premier League for various clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton, among others. He also won 13 caps for the England national team and scored three goals.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is disappointed with himself for not giving Kobbie Mainoo any gametime at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Manchester United midfielder was one of the four England players not to play a single minute in the tournament.
Apart from Mainoo, the players who did not feature at all were backup keepers Dean Henderson and James Trafford, alongside versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah. Thomas Tuchel has spoken on his decision and insisted that the midfielder will play during the upcoming international break. He said:
“I expect him to be on the pitch and it’s my duty to put him on the pitch. That was totally on me, he did not put a foot wrong at the World Cup. He was class in his behaviour and on the training pitch. It was a big competition. We also played Reecey in midfield, Elliot Anderson is fantastic, Declan Rice is a very unique player. So we trusted them more than we trusted Kobbie. It was difficult for him, difficult for me. He got injured before the France game [the third-place play-off] so we could not even give him minutes there which hurt me. Maybe he was more hurt but it was my responsibility.”
Kobbie Mainoo has become a key player for Manchester United under Michael Carrick. The 21-year-old struggled for minutes under former manager Ruben Amorim, but Carrick’s arrival has reignited his career.
