“Put skirts on refs”: Dave Portnoy blasts NFL over throwing “weakest flag in the history of the league” on Mike Vrabel

Mike Vrabel was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct during the first half of the New England Patriots’ game against the Buffalo Bills. According to Yahoo Sports, the flag occurred after Vrabel protested a big third-down penalty called on his defence.

Dave Portnoy took to X and blasted the NFL over the decision.

“Throwing a flag on Vrabel for saying “that’s a f****** terrible call” has to be the weakest flag in the history of the league. Put skirts on the refs,” the Barstool Sports founder wrote.

The flag incident was one of many high-profile moments in the first half of the AFC East showdown. There was a 97-yard touchdown drive, another scoring march and some hard-nosed defense from both powerhouse teams.

Mike Vrabel knows a lot about the Patriots-Bills rivalry from his playing days. He’s now the team’s coach and looking to establish supremacy in a competitive division.

Drake Maye shines as Mike Vrabel’s Patriots beat Bills to go 2-2

The New England Patriots have endured a mixed start to the 2026 season. Mike Vrabel’s team has suffered two losses in its first three games, with star quarterback Drake Maye throwing for under 200 yards in both.

As such, Vrabel, Maye and Co. faced significant pressure to avoid going 1-3 just months after reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in the post-Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era. The Patriots answered the call emphatically.

Drake Maye amassed 269 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the 29-26 win. Mike Vrabel’s defense also thrived, limiting Josh Allen to 253 yards, one touchdown and one interception and handing the Bills their first loss of the season.

This win could build momentum for the New England Patriots. Up next for Drake Maye and Co. is a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
