The India National Cricket Team will have to make changes in their plans for the New Zealand tour, as Prasidh Krishna is expected to remain out of action for at least three weeks. Prasidh Krishna’s hamstring injury has almost ruled him out of the upcoming ODI series in New Zealand.
The Indian fast bowler suffered a left hamstring injury during the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati and was forced to miss the third and final ODI in New Chandigarh. He bowled only five overs before leaving the field during the 31st over of the West Indies innings in Guwahati. Earlier, Akash Deep opened up on injury and workload management.
Prasidh Krishna set to miss New Zealand ODI series
As reported by Times of India, Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of action for at least three weeks, which means he is highly likely to miss the upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand next month. India’s New Zealand tour will begin with the T20I series on October 22.
The ODI series will kick off on November 4 in Auckland. Before this imminent setback, the 30-year-old pacer is also unlikely to be available for the opening round of the Ranji Trophy, which starts on October 11. Karnataka are scheduled to begin their campaign against Andhra Pradesh in Vijayawada.
Prasidh Krishna begins recovery program at BCCI Centre of Excellence
The report revealed that Prasidh has already reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to begin his recovery. The pacer is expected to regain full fitness in around three weeks, while he may need nearly four weeks before he can start bowling at full intensity.
This recovery timeline makes his availability for the five-match ODI series in New Zealand uncertain. Even if he starts bowling again before the ODI series, it may not be enough for him to be fully ready for the opening match against the Black Caps next month.
India faces bowling headache ahead of New Zealand tour
India may also have to manage their fast bowlers carefully during the New Zealand series. Players who are part of the Test plans could miss the final two ODIs.
India captain Shubman Gill had already expressed frustration over injuries and the busy schedule after the final ODI against the West Indies. However, Gill is hoping that India can have a full-strength squad for the New Zealand ODIs.
With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, the team wants to settle on its main combination and give those players more matches together. Amid this, “Main toh hoon hi nahi”: Shubman Gill gives blunt response regarding West Indies T20I series.
India’s ODI plans hit by Prasidh Krishna’ injury
Prasidh is expected to be an important part of India’s ODI plans for the New Zealand series and the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. So, Prasidh’s latest hamstring injury has therefore become a major concern for the team.
Krishna has represented India across all three formats and has picked up 94 international wickets so far. He has played 9 Test matches and has taken 32 wickets at an average of 30.34, with an economy rate of 4.18 and a strike rate of 43.59.
In 30 ODI matches, Prasidh has taken 53 wickets at an average of 27.09 and an economy rate of 5.98. He has also 9 wickets to his name in 8 T20I matches.
