The opening goal in the Legacy’s 4-2 win over the Thorns in Portland on Saturday was a microcosm of the entire 90 minutes. The Thorns had been reduced to 10 players, had them all behind the ball, yet it was still way too easy for the Legacy to attack and score. Let’s take a look.

It began with a goal kick from Portland goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold that was initially touched by forward Pietra Tordin. It was a heavy touch after which Tordin got tangled up with Alba Caño. The ball came loose and Boston’s Lilly Reale controlled it. But below, look at Caño. She is on the ground after the 50/50, and Tordin is the player two over from her.
