Tommy Paul and Ethan Quinn will vie for the third time on the ATP Tour, with the former leading the head-to-head scoreline with 2-0. Paul entered the Hamburg Open after his Round of 32 exit at the Italian Open. He is participating in Germany after appearing in two finals this season, including the Delray Beach Open and ATP Houston. His best result on clay so far this season was winning the ATP Houston title.
Quinn made early round exits at all three Masters 1000 clay events. He advanced to the semifinal at the Challenger event in Aix-en-Provence and lifted the title in Phoenix, which was on hard court.
