Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
Following Mohamed Salah’s departure, the Reds have purchased Victor Muñoz from Osasuna. So, Andoni Iraola currently has the Spaniard plus Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa as winger options.
However, Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, while Chiesa has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Juventus.
On the other hand, Ngumoha is still very young and his game time needs to be managed carefully to help him reach his full potential. So, Liverpool want to buy more wingers in this window.
The Merseyside club have expressed their interest in signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh and have already seen their two proposals worth up to £60m rejected by the Seagulls. They want £70m to let him leave.
Moreover, PSG’s Bradley Barcola has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but Liverpool haven’t been able to reach an agreement with Les Parisiens to seal the deal.
Now, on Givemesport, Jacobs states that if Liverpool eventually fail to sign Barcola, they have identified Mbaye as a potential alternative option, with the player open to moving to Anfield.
Mbaye to Liverpool
Meanwhile, French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Liverpool have already agreed on personal terms with Mbaye but don’t want to finalise the operation by matching PSG’s £60m valuation.
The Reds don’t want to spend more than £43m for Mbaye, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. Barcola and Mbaye won’t feature for PSG during the remainder of this transfer window.
Mbaye is a technically gifted right-footed versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in finishing off his chances, and works hard without possession.
The youngster is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually opt to reinforce the frontline by purchasing Mbaye this summer.
