Report: Bowman Gray Stadium to host first NASCAR points race since 1971

Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will host its first NASCAR points race since 1971 next year, according to a Saturday report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic.

Bianchi reported Saturday afternoon that Bowman Gray, affectionately dubbed “The Madhouse” for its wild weekly racing scene, will host a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in 2027, the first time the track will have hosted a points event since the last points-paying Cup Series event at BGS in 1971.

NASCAR Trucks set for Bowman Gray debut

NASCAR returned to Bowman Gray in 2025 and 2026 to run the Clash, a season-opening exhibition event. A Truck Series race at the 0.25-mile bullring had been rumored in recent weeks. The Truck Series has never raced at Bowman Gray Stadium.

The Winston-Salem Journal also reported early Saturday morning that a Truck Series race was coming to Bowman Gray, reporting a race date of Friday, Aug. 20, 2027. If that date is accurate, that would make the race a standalone event for the Truck Series, as the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Cup Series are racing at Gateway on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, 2027, respectively.
