Why Cowboys should move quickly to re-sign QB Joe Milton III to practice squad

The Dallas Cowboys could soon re-sign third-year quarterback Joe Milton III. They shouldn’t pass on that opportunity.

In a surprising move, the Cowboys waived Milton on Monday, awarding the backup QB job to Sam Howell. Milton could soon return to Dallas after clearing waivers and becoming a free agent on Tuesday.

The Cowboys are open to reuniting with the 26-year-old QB. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and co-owner Stephen Jones both said they would love to add him to their practice squad, which they should.

Milton lost the backup QB job to Howell, but the competition was close. Milton completed 29-of-43 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns in preseason. Howell, meanwhile, completed 27-of-40 passes for 314 yards and three TDs, tossing one interception.
