[VIDEO] Yulenmis Aguilar Sets Spanish Javelin Record – Athletics News

After her disappointment in Birmingham, Yulenmis Aguilar has finally claimed the Spanish national record she had long coveted. The javelin thrower sent the implement to 65.39 meters at the Taranto Mediterranean Games, a mark that earned her the silver medal and set a new national record.

Aguilar surpassed the previous national record by 1,32 meters, the 64,07 meters that Mercedes Chilla established in 2010. Moreover, the Spanish athlete markedly improves her previous personal best, the 64,17 meters she had achieved in 2022 before obtaining Spanish nationality in 2024.

The throw also represents World Athletics’ qualifying standard for the 2027 World Championships, confirming Aguilar’s spectacular comeback after a long injury. In Taranto she was only surpassed by the Serbian Adriana Vilagoš, who took gold with 65.93 meters.
