Playoff picture remains wide open
The final midweek matches of the season delivered some drama Wednesday night. Denver Summit failed to hold on to a two-goal lead for a second game in a row. After commanding a 2-0 advantage, they allowed Bay FC to creep back into the game to draw 2-2. Claire Hutton willed Bay back into the game with her second half finish. Taylor Huff’s 90+6’ equalizer is the latest goal in Bay FC’s history. Denver are now a worrying seven points back from the final playoff place.
The Seattle Reign met defeat for the first time in five matches. They were bested by a rampaging Angel City side, who have now won 10 games in a season for the first time in club history. Ally Sentnor scored a penalty kick while Ary Borges and Taylor Suarez cemented Angel City’s 3-1 win. Angel City are now just one point behind eighth-place Seattle.
Seattle has been without some of its brightest young talent, though. Midfielder Ainsley McCammon scored the equalizing goal to tie the U.S. 1-1 with Brazil at the U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday. However, Emeri Adames saw her penalty kick saved in the shootout that saw the U.S. lose 5-4 and be eliminated in the Round of 16.
