With about a month into the season, the NCAA has not disappointed. From unexpected results to record-breaking attendances, this season has been eventful to say the least. Let’s dive into some of the stunning wins in the NCAA we have seen so far.
BYU vs. UCLA (No. 9)
Entering Bruin territory is already a tough battle to overcome. BYU had to come back from behind after being 1-0. The Cougars managed to put away 2 goals and left Los Angeles with a major victory. The determination from BYU was the difference maker.
UCLA is always viewed as a powerhouse in their sports department. Yet, the soccer stars were not able to open up the season as brightly as they had hoped. Luckily for the Bruins, they have a long season to make up for this early upset.
Nebraska vs. Louisville (No. 20)
Despite being unranked, Nebraska played a tenacious game against Louisville. Running away with a 3-1 victory, Nebraska put on a legitimate performance.
The match was tense as both teams pushed one another. The Cornhuskers were on the board early, and it was troublesome for Louisville to cool down. Louisville remained aggressive in effort as they out-shot Nebraska 18 to 8, but time was not on their side.
Stanford at the Top
The Cardinals have put on full display why it is that they are ranked at the top. Going unbeaten in 7 matches and putting up impressive numbers, Stanford is flying high so far. Some notable wins for them include a 6-0 shutout against UC Irvine followed by a 7-0 shutout against Cal State Fullerton.
Yet, their dominance did not transfer in their first ACC match against Duke. The Cardinals were rocked with a 5-0 loss. This was unexpected considering their recent form. Even so, with a 6-1-1 record, Stanford remains the team to beat.
Georgia Bulldogs vs. James Madison Dukes
Most notably, the attendance record at the Georgia vs. James Madison match was broken. A historic attendance of 25,433 fans beat out the previous record that was held for over 40 years.
Alongside this, the Bulldogs made sure to give the historic audience a worthwhile performance. In a 6-0 dominant win, the Bulldogs smashed their opponent and set an attendance record all in one evening.
