The Eritrean Dawit Seare produced one of the biggest shocks of the Copenhagen 5K road world championships by beating Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a spectacular finish. The Nordic athlete had to settle for silver, while the Eritrean Saymon Amanuel completed the podium.
Seare, a relatively little-known competitor outside the international circuit and with a 13:07.77 mark for 5000 metres, withstood Ingebrigtsen’s late challenge and claimed the world title in a finish decided by only a few metres. Eritrea thus placed two athletes on the podium, in one of the day’s flagship images. There was no Spanish participation in this men’s event.
🔥 What a wild finish you pulled off, Seare!!
