Portland Thorns forward Sophia Wilson has been handed an additional game suspension for pulling her opponent’s hair, for which she was red-carded, in Portland’s October 3 loss to the Boston Legacy.
The original red card made her unavailable for the October 18 matchup against Bay FC. Now she will also be ineligible to play against North Carolina Courage on October 23. As a result, the only remaining regular season game Wilson will be allowed to play in is Decision Day, November 1, versus Houston Dash.
This is a massive loss for the Thorns, who currently sit seventh in the standings, just three points clear of the Seattle Reign, who are in ninth place and out of playoff qualification for now. Wilson has scored 13 goals and contributed five assists through 27 appearances in 2026.
