Delhi Capitals Women bounced back strong from their defeat against Mumbai Indians Women as the side registered their third win of the season in the ongoing Women’s Premier League as they thrashed Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets with Marizanne Kapp being named the Player of the Match.
Marizanne Kapp was the star of the show, taking her first-ever five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and restricting the Gujarat Giants to a total of 105/9. Kapp utilized the seam movement to great effect and dismantled the Giants’ top order, putting the Delhi Capitals in a strong position. Kim Garth’s gritty knock of 32* off 37 helped the Giants reach a total just over the 100-run mark.

Marizanne Kapp got off to a blistering start, picking up the wicket of Sabbhineni Meghana with a yorker in just the second ball of the innings. In her next over, Kapp took two more wickets, removing the dangerous Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner in quick succession. Wolvaardt, who was playing her first game in the WPL as a replacement for Beth Mooney, was bowled by her South African teammate Kapp, while Gardner was trapped lbw, leaving the Giants reeling at 9/3.
As wickets fell at the other end, Harleen Deol managed to score some boundaries before being dismissed by Kapp after a successful review by the Capitals. Despite her contribution of 20 off 14 balls, Deol was unable to keep her wicket intact. Meg Lanning brought Marizanne Kapp back into the attack for her last over, where she removed Sushma Verma and completed her five-wicket haul.

Marizanne Kapp Happy To Contribute Towards The Success Of The Team
The South African star was present with the broadcasters during the post-match presentation while accepting the Player of the Match award. Marizanne Kapp seemed happy with her performance as she added that after the last few games she desperately wanted to contribute to the team’s win.
“I just wanted to perform so badly for my team. In the previous three games, I missed my lines very much and wanted to step up tonight. If you want to perform, you have to put in the hard work. I let the team down in the three games so wanted it badly. It is tough as an all-rounder. If you pick wickets and don’t score runs, it feels bad. Luckily, I didn’t bat tonight. We have got a great group of players and happy to get across the line tonight.”
Despite Kim Garth’s slow but resilient knock of 32 off 37 balls, the Giants could only manage to score 104 runs in their allotted 20 overs due to the Capitals’ tight bowling. In response, Shafali Verma put up an exceptional performance by hitting five sixes and ten fours, leading Capitals to an easy victory in just 7.1 overs. Verma also registered the second-fastest fifty in the WPL during her stunning innings.
