Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel heaped praise on Virat Kohli for his stupendous century against Australia in the fourth and final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The former Indian skipper had last scored a Test century in November of 2019 against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Parthiv Patel hailed Virat Kohli for a terrific knock in Ahmedabad and Virat Kohli scored a fantastic knock of 186 runs before being dismissed by Todd Murphy. India posted a mammoth total of 571-9 with Shreyas Iyer ruled due to injury.
Speaking on the cricbuzz show, Parthiv Patel said Virat Kohli was positive in his intent and hitting the balls in the right direction added Virat Kohli has been very positive in picking up singles and doubles as Kohli scored only 15 boundaries in his innings and added he played the Spinners very well and stressed that Virat Kohli’s innings is the perfect template to spin in Indian conditions.
“Kohli’s body language is like he is batting in the nets. He is hitting the ball where he wants. He only hit five boundaries while getting to his hundred, scoring all the other runs through singles and doubles, He knows that Nathan Lyon is attacking the off-stump line and he is not playing any strokes on that line, and playing the left-armer with the spin. TT” Patel added.
Kohli now has 28 tons in the longer format of the game, with a total of 75 centuries in international cricket. While, in Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, team India is leading the four-test match series by 2-1 against Australia. Rohit Sharma-led side needs to win at Ahmedabad for assurance of qualification to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
Virat Kohli Looked In Control Throughout The Series – Parthiv Patel
The Gujarat wicket-keeper batter admired Virat Kohli’s innings as one of the best innings of his career and said that Virat was batting well throughout the series, but could not score runs due to unlucky dismissals and added that RCB batter looked in control throughout the series.
“He has been playing out such innings for a very long time. This isn’t the first time that we’re seen Kohli play the way he is. A player becomes great when they have performed at the highest level for a long period. I’m not surprised at all by how Kohli has batted in this series. Today he has made runs but he has looked in control throughout the series against Australia,” Patel added.
Kohli continued his good form since his comeback scoring an international century in Asia Cup 2022, which was his maiden T20I ton as well. He then ended his barren run in ODIs, by scoring 3 centuries in 4 ODIs against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
