With Porsche car on the line, Mirra Andreeva makes wild claim at Stuttgart even risking legal trouble

18-year-old Mirra Andreeva wildly claimed that despite not having a driver’s license, she won’t hesitate to drive the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet to be awarded to the winner of the ongoing WTA 500 clay event in Stuttgart, Germany. The World No. 9 Russian made this carefree declaration after dispatching defending champion Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the tournament.

Over the years, it’s become a tradition of sorts for the winner of the annual Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart to be handed over the keys for the champion’s swanky new car followed by a brief spin on the Porsche-Arena’s main court. Andreeva is aiming to do the same this year, and the teenager doesn’t seem to care much for the fact that she doesn’t possess a driver’s license.

Speaking in an on-court interview following her 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Ostapenko, Mirra Andreeva playfully said:

“If I manage to get to the end of the tournament & win, I’m gonna take this car & I’m gonna go down on the court. I don’t care if I don’t have a drivers license.”

The interview was not all laughs and giggles though, as Andreeva also reflected on her resilient performance against Ostapenko.

Andreeva also acknowledged Ostapenko’s level of tennis following the result. The Russian brought up her recent title triumph at the Linz Open as well, in the final of which she had to battle back from a first-set deficit against Anastasia Potapova.

“I actually didn’t think I’d be able to come back in the third set, but the last tournament I played in Linz showed me that I can actually win from any score. So I just kept believing in myself and was trying to grab any opportunity I have, and slowly, point by point, I felt like I’m coming back. She’s a tough player to play, especially in the first round,” Mirra Andreeva said.

Up next for the No. 6 seed at the 2026 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a second-round clash against qualifier Alycia Parks of the USA, who downed home hope Noma Noha Akugue in the first round. Acknowledging Parks’ threat in her on-court interview, Andreeva added:

“She’s also a very tough opponent to play against, because she also hits the ball very hard. She has a great serve.”

Andreeva and Parks’ only past meeting was a one-sided affair, as the Russian registered a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win in a first-round match at last year’s US Open.
