The best Brig build in Windrose will help tackle most of the mid-game naval encounters. The Foothills region is filled with Blackbeard crew ships of level 6-10, and facing them head-on requires a vessel that can hold its own against multiple threats. This particular ship class features a stronger hull and increased firepower compared to a Ketch, and as such is a worthwhile upgrade for the second biome of The Archipelago.
In this article, we take a look at the best Brig build and shed light on the cannon, hull, and tactics choices in Windrose.
Windrose’s best Brig build explored
All variants and their capabilities
Every ship class in Windrose has three variants, each focusing on a different playstyle and offering a few loadout options. Let’s have a look at what each variant offers:
- Default variant: A balanced combination of hitpoints and firepower. Decent cargo storage and speed.
- Brethren variant: A defensive combination of high hitpoints with similar firepower as the default variant: high cargo storage but low speed.
- Blackbeard variant: An offensive combination of low hit points with increased firepower. Low cargo storage but increased speed.

Best cannon choices:
There are a few cannon choices for the best Brig build that top this list. This mid-game naval vessel can fit 24-Pounder cannons in its Blackbeard variant. Although this presents a compelling argument in the Blackbeard version’s favor, the low hitpoints are a dealbreaker. This is why we chose the Brethren variant.
Here are the abilities you should equip on your cannons:
- 12-Pounder – Tempered ability: increases damage by 40% if you wait 6 seconds before firing after the reload has completed.

While tackling multiple ships in a fleet, you want to be able to tank a few hits while your cannons reload or your repair kit’s cooldown ends.

Best hull choice:
Windrose is in early access, and as such, there are a limited number of biomes, ships, and their customization options. At the time of writing, the Keelhold hull bracing is the best-in-slot hull equipment for all ships in the game.

Without this hull, a repair kit stops healing your ship as soon as you get hit. However, thanks to the Keelhold hull bracing, this issue can be overlooked, as now your naval vessel can out-heal incoming damage.
Best tactic choices:
Here are the two best tactic choices for the best Brig build in Windrose:
- No Quarter: destroying a ship within 50 meters restores 30% health over 10 seconds.
- Stretch the Supply: increases repair kit duration by 30% and grog effect duration by 200%.

Players can either prolong the duration of repair kits and grogs or get a bonus repair kit effect upon destroying a ship at close range. The former helps you in a defensive playstyle, while the latter is the better choice for a more offensive approach.
