Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has picked his three standout performances of IPL 2026 up to Game 36, notably leaving out Delhi Capitals (DC) opener KL Rahul’s sensational unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, which came against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
During a discussion on his YouTube channel, Jaffer named Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s blistering 103 off 37 balls, featuring five fours and 12 sixes, against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) as one of the best knocks.
He also included Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Akeal Hosein’s standout performance against Mumbai Indians (MI), where he returned figures of 4/17 in four overs. Lastly, he picked SRH opener Abhishek Sharma’s unbeaten 135 off 68 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC). He said:
“I think Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s first hundred has to be one of the best. In bowling, I would say Akeal Hosein’s performance. You have to give credit to the bowlers as well, because this IPL has been very batter-dominated so far. So Akeal Hosein’s spell, especially in that CSK vs Mumbai El Clásico, was top class. And I think one of Abhishek Sharma’s recent innings, where he scored a hundred, was also outstanding.”
Abhishek currently leads the Orange Cap race with 380 runs in eight matches, including three fifties and a century, while Anshul Kamboj tops the Purple Cap standings with 14 wickets in seven games, with the best of 3/22.
“It is not easy to live up to such a big price tag” – Wasim Jaffer predicts Player of the Tournament for IPL 2026
In the same discussion, Wasim Jaffer named Shreyas Iyer as his prediction for the Player of the Tournament in IPL 2026. He noted that the franchise has not regretted paying him ₹26.75 crore. He said:
“Shreyas Iyer: We have already spoken about the IPL, the way he has led the team and the way he has batted, it is not easy. I mean, if you talk about a player for whom a franchise paid ₹26.75 crore and did not regret it after picking him, it could only be Shreyas Iyer. It is not easy to live up to such a big price tag and still have the team happy to have you. So Shreyas Iyer is that person.”
The right-hander has scored 279 runs in six innings at an average of 69.75 and a strike rate of 186.00, including four fifties, while his side Punjab Kings (PBKS) sits at the top of the table with 13 points from seven games.
