Conflicting theories emerge about Adrian Newey’s health condition as Aston Martin moves to quash speculation: Reports

Reports of Aston Martin Team Principal Adrian Newey being hospitalized due to an illness surfaced on the internet after the Miami GP. However, conflicting theories have emerged as a publication suggested that the Briton is on a vacation. Amid all this, the Silverstone outfit came out to invalidate the speculations.

Adrian Newey was seen at the Australian GP paddock, where he detailed the vibration issues with the Honda power unit. Since then, at the Chinese and the Japanese GP, the Technical Director wasn’t present in the paddock and was notably absent from last week’s Miami GP.

The Daily Mail came out and reported that Adrian Newey had to be hospitalized for an illness, and that it would take him several weeks to fully recover. The report also suggested that the Aston Martin Technical Director has been working from home.

Amid this report, a conflicting theory about Adrian Newey’s absence from the paddock and the Silverstone factory has emerged. Autonocion.com came out and reported that the Briton has indeed been on a vacation, and hence hasn’t been to the factory.

As per Autonocion’s report, they contacted their sources, who they reported as the employees at the Aston Martin factory in Silverstone. The sources were questioned about Newey’s absence from the factory, and they suggested that the reason given to them was that the aerodynamicist was on vacation.

“Newey may have been on vacation … but there’s a catch. This is the reason given to some Silverstone factory workers for the engineer’s absence from his office and the facilities. In other words, he hasn’t been present at his workspace in Silverstone, and there’s no indication that he’s suffered any health problems, according to factory sources consulted by this publication,” read the report

However, Aston Martin came out and squashed the speculations around Adrian Newey’s absence, as a spokesperson from the Silverstone-based squad told The Daily Mail,

“We don’t comment on personal matters relating to any of our team members. Adrian is working and was on campus last week.”

Former F1 Boss suggested the Team Principal role is Adrian Newey’s strongest suit

Adrian Newey was promoted as the Aston Martin Team Principal ahead of the 2026 season, with Andy Cowell being moved to a different role. The Briton took up the additional responsibilities of a TP alongside his Technical Director role.

However, things haven’t been smooth sailing for the Silverstone-based team, with reports suggesting that Newey is looking to step away from the TP role, and Jonathan Wheatley is being linked to it.

Amid this, former Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner came out and said,

“I don’t know how it happened, if he wanted to be Team Principal or not, but that’s obviously not where his strength is. He’s very good at what he’s doing, which is designing cars – obviously not the Aston Martin at the moment, but he will fix it.”

“I think it was an Adrian thing, ‘I need to be Team Principal’. Not knowing what being a Team Principal involves. Therefore, it didn’t last long. It shows you should always put the people where their strength is, never overpromote them,” he added

Aston Martin was the only team not to bring an upgrade to the Miami GP. However, Jenson Button suggested that Adrian Newey is working on getting a big upgrade to the AMR26.
