It’s time to give some love to the Kansas City Current. They have taken their lumps so far this season but finally found their first away result over the weekend. And we’re going to break down a quality connection between Michelle Cooper and Croix Bethune that made the winning goal happen.
The Current were already ahead 1-0 — the first time this season they have scored first — when the ball was knocking back and forth in midfield. Lo’eau LaBonta was in a decidedly defensive position when she slipped between two Courage players with an eye on challenging Chioma Okafor. Okafor elected to play the ball backward, and the next pass missed it’s target, allowing LaBonta to get an acrobatic head on it. Possession won.
