In what could be an absolutely crucial game at the bottom of Ligue 1, Auxerre play host to Nice at the Stade I’Abbe Deschamps this Sunday.

- If you include a 0-0 Coupe de France draw in 2024 that was eventually won by Nice on penalties, four of the last six meetings between these sides have ended in draws. The last time they faced off, though, Nice ran out 3-1 winners.

- Only two sides have scored fewer Ligue 1 goals this season than Auxerre’s current total of 30. However, it is worth noting that the home side this weekend have managed to score three goals in all four of their most recent wins, suggesting they’ve become more dangerous recently.
- Nice’s problem this season has been their woeful defensive record. They’ve conceded a total of 58 goals, a larger number than any side apart from relegated Metz. Despite this, they have improved in recent weeks, as they have only conceded three goals in their last five games.

This is an absolutely huge match at the bottom of the table, but it’s fair to say that Auxerre have far more to lose. They cannot afford to lose if they want to avoid the relegation play-off, while a win for Nice would guarantee their survival.
To be fair to the away side, they have been on a solid run as of late, conceding far fewer goals, and they’re unbeaten in their last five in all competitions.
However, Auxerre have also turned things around in recent weeks too, and the home advantage may give them some confidence. With that said, it’s hard to trust either team to win – so the prediction is a draw, leaving the ultimate outcome to the final day.
