Roman Reigns is set to defend his title for the first time at WWE Backlash 2026 against Jacob Fatu. However, a new report sheds light on The Original Tribal Chief’s future following the event, and the 40-year-old star might not live up to his promise.
Last month, Roman Reigns claimed he will fix the part-time schedule in the coming months and the audience will see his a** all summer. After the event, Jacob Fatu moved to Monday Night RAW and became The Original Tribal Chief’s first challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship. The Samoan Werewolf has vowed to take everything away from the Men’s Grand Slam Champion, starting with the world title.
Thanks for the submission!
Recently, there was a lot of chatter around reported tension between Roman Reigns and TKO. While those were dismissed, there’s bad news for the fans who want to see The Original Tribal Chief in the coming months. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), the company didn’t plan out in advance with their advertisements, which is why Reigns pulled out of events in June 2026.
However, the insider also claimed that, as of now, the 40-year-old WWE star will work at Clash in Italy and will miss June before returning in July for the build of SummerSlam 2026 in Minnesota. It’s disappointing to see the World Heavyweight Champion miss an entire month from television, and due to the hiatus, Reigns won’t live up to his own words.
WWE had different plans for Roman Reigns following WrestleMania 42 – Reports
Earlier this year, Roman Reigns returned to the top of the mountain when he won the Men’s Royal Rumble match and punched his ticket to WrestleMania 42. While there were reports of Reigns facing Cody Rhodes, The Original Tribal Chief went after CM Punk and the World Heavyweight Championship. In the end, the 40-year-old WWE star walked out of Las Vegas with a win over The Second City Saint.
After the event, Gunther, LA Knight, and Oba Femi teased going after the new champion, but The Ring General went to the blue brand and attacked Cody Rhodes. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), the company changed major plans for The Original Tribal Chief and The American Nightmare after the event in Nevada.
The Men’s Grand Slam Champion was supposed to have a program with Gunther, as there was a promo shot for it. Meanwhile, the three-time Undisputed WWE Champion was set to continue his feud with Randy Orton and Pat McAfee, but those plans were scrapped.
