The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney recently shared a humorous idea for dealing with his in-race frustrations, suggesting a “dummy” radio button for his infamous outbursts, noting that simply venting to oneself is not effective. In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Blaney explained that the “dummy” button would let drivers blow off steam without the world hearing it.
Blaney, who drives the #12 Team Penske Ford Mustang, is often known for having intense, frustrated outbursts on the radio during races. His comments came while discussing the emotional outbursts drivers often have over team radio during races.
Thanks for the submission!
Speaking to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the Team Penske star explained that venting on the radio is almost therapeutic for him in the heat of competition, comparing it to going to therapy. Blaney then shared a humorous dummy button idea that he believes could save drivers from having their emotional radio moments spread across social media and broadcasts.
Here’s what the #12 driver said:
“You got to hit the button like if you just say it to yourself. You’re just talking to yourself. You got to have other people here. It’s like going to therapy. Like, you can’t do therapy looking in a mirror; you go sit down and talk to a person about there is someone. You got to hear it.”
“So that’s what everyone says, like, well, just don’t hit the button. I’m like, “You don’t know. You have no idea. You’ve got to hit that button.” We need a dummy button is what we need. I need a dummy like a button that doesn’t go to anybody.”
